Why use a free mailaccount?
People use free mailaccounts
for various reasons.
Some
simply does not have an account from the
intenetprovider (maybe they don't even have
an internetprovider).
Others
creates a free e-mail-address because they
don't want to share their usual mailaddress
with just anyone.
Why hide your E-mailaddress
There are two main reason snot
to distribute your usual emailaddress
everywhere.
One
is that you might end up on various
mailinglists that willsend you hundreds of
commercialmails a day and thereby destroying
your mailaddress.
Another
big reason could be that you have entered
your real name and address along with your
usual E-mail-account in various
E-mail-catalogues. This is a useful way to
make it possible for friends to find your
e-mailaddress. But at the same time it works
the other way around for potential enemies,
and you might not want that. Say you give
your real mailaccount to someone - and later
you find out he/she is a complete psycho.
Now, the complete psycho canmake an inverse
lookup in major mailcatalogues on the net -
entering your e-mail-address, and a few
seconds later, they have your real name,
phone#, address etc. The day after you hear
the doorbell ring, and...... never mind - you
get the point.

How do they differ?
Free mailaccounts differ in
various ways. Some offers filtering for known
mass-commercial-messengers (spammers), some
offers autorespond (so people will get a
notify if they mail you during your vacation)
and others offer various email-names (e.g.
yourname@Astronaut.Com or
yourname@Anarchy.Com etc etc.).
