Design Perception Laws

A part of "perception psychology" covers how the human brain deals with broader pictures and large scopes by dividing them into smaller portions.

The studies have resulted in the formulation of the
Gestalt Laws of Perceptual Organization:

  • Law of closenes

  • Law of enclosure

  • Law of similarity

  • Law of connectivity

Along with being a pretty cool term to throw across the table, the Gestalt Laws of Perceptual Organization is an excellent tool when designing a website.

The 4 laws explain how visitors judge which parts are connected to each other, like navigation, content, general links, and specific links for the particular topic.

On the following pages we will go through the Gestalt laws
one by one.

DEVELOPER TIP!
FACT:
It takes about half a second for a server to respond to a request sent via the internet.
TIP:
If your page has 10 very small images - each with a size of 100 bytes - it will take longer to load than had it been a continuous stream of 1000 bytes.
